Orange Essential Oil 10-Fold
Citrus aurantium dulcis (Orange) oil
Orange oil 10-fold is a concentrated sweet-orange peel oil thatās been redistilled under vacuum to remove most of the light terpenes (mainly d-limonene) and keep/enrich the more aromatic oxygenated components (citral, aldehydes, esters). ā10-foldā means itās roughly ten times the aromatic strength of the original expressed oil.
Why formulators use it
-
Stronger, truer orange note with better persistence.
-
Less volatile / better stability than straight expressed oil (less limonene to oxidise).
-
Improved solubility in alcohol; less clouding in perfumes and some bases.
-
Cleaner colour and less tendency to discolor soaps/lotions than regular orange oil.
-
Lower odour of raw terpene/solvent; more āpeel + juiceā character.
-
Sweet orange isnāt phototoxic; folding doesnāt change that in practice.
Ā
Applications:
Fine fragrance
-
Bright top note that lasts longer; great in colognes, gourmands, ambers.
-
Starting point in concentrates: 0.5ā5% (itās potent; build up slowly).
Ā
Personal care (skin-safe, leave-on/rinse-off)
-
Lotions/creams/body oils:Ā 0.05ā0.3%
-
Rinse-off (shower gel/shampoo/soap): 0.2ā0.8%
-
Always follow your supplierās IFRA limits for your batch.
Ā
Ā Home fragrance (nonāskin contact)
-
Candles/wax melts: 4ā8% of wax (often throws better than straight orange; blend with benzoin/vanilla/woods for warmth).
-
Reed diffusers (Augeo, etc.): 10ā20%.
-
Room sprays: 0.2ā1% with a proper solubiliser.
