Orange Essential Oil Pure

Citrus aurantium var. dulcis

(Brazilian)

Cold-pressed (expressed) oil from the peel of sweet orange.

Aroma: bright, juicy, zesty-sweet orange with a soft peel/pith nuance.

Key natural constituents (typical ranges)

• d-Limonene ~85–95% → sparkling orange-peel note

• Minor: myrcene, α-pinene, linalool, citral (add freshness/fruitiness)

 

 Common physical data

• Appearance: colorless to pale orange, mobile liquid

• Solubility: oil/ethanol-soluble; insoluble in water

• Relative density (20 °C): ~0.84–0.86

• Refractive index (20 °C): ~1.471–1.476

• Flash point: ~45–50 °C (flammable)

• Stability: oxidises readily → store cool, full, and tightly closed; a touch of antioxidant (e.g., 0.05% BHT or 0.1% tocopherol) helps shelf life.

 

Applications:

Fine fragrance

 

• EDP/Perfume (ethanol): 1–10% of the fragrance concentrate (higher in colognes).

• Diffusers/aromatherapy: 3–8 drops per 100 mL water (device-dependent).

• Roles: happy citrus top, blends beautifully with vanilla, spices, woods, florals.

 

Personal care (skin-safe, leave-on/rinse-off)

 

• Leave-on (lotions, body oils, balms): 0.05–0.5%.

• Rinse-off (shower gel, shampoo, hand wash): 0.2–1.0%.

• Bar soap/syndet: 0.5–2% (pair with benzoin/vanilla/woods for better retention).
  
  

 Home fragrance (non–skin contact)

 

• Candles / wax melts: 5–10% of wax; cure 24–72 h; consider fixatives for hot throw.

• Reed diffusers (e.g., Augeo base): 10–20% EO.

• Room/linen sprays: 0.2–1% with a solubiliser; patch-test fabrics.

Household

• Classic “clean & fresh” scent for surface sprays, kitchen deodorisers, garbage-bin refreshers; potpourri/laundry boosters
